Booster Seat

Starting Sept 1, it will be mandatory by law the use of booster seats for children in Sao Paulo, Brasil.

I was really glad to see the news, because I think that it is sooo important to make sure your children are safe in the car, but then I was shocked to see that most people think it is a ridiculous idea and just another attempt to exhort money from parents. Only 32% show an interest.

When mothers were asked about dangers children could experience, only 8% said auto accidents. The biggest worry seems to be around drugs. A really sad reality.

Regardless of socio economic level, all parents seem unwilling to follow this law, starting tomorrow.

On a previous news article, some parents, perhaps the one willing to do follow the rules, were complaining that it was really hard to find the booster seats in stores. And that the city would not postponed the implementation of the law until more stores received the merchandised.

The fine to pay is R$ 191,54 (about $120 CN), and SEVEN demerits points in your driver's license.

Hopefully, with time, more people will realized the importance of the booster seat and adhere to it, specially in the words-cant-describe-how-chaotic the traffic in Sao Paulo is.

Peace to all,

Paula
